BY RICHARD WAGNER | ADAPTED BY DAVE DALTON |
Summary
Let's get ready to rumble! PL115 adapts the first two operas of Wagner's iconic Ring Cycle into the action-packed world of 1980's professional wrestling. Pumped up on rock and roll and steroids, Wagner's Norse gods step inside the squared circle for power and glory.
PL115's production strips the opera of its music and traditional setting, re-contextualizing the hubris of Wagner's characters inside the excessive and exuberant world of 1980's America. Juxtaposing familiar themes with Wagner's story, the project illuminates America's current crisis of identity and introduces The Ring Cycle to a new generation of theatergoers.
